you mean besides the standard 501?
Levis has stores, yes. [Edit: Apparently left the tab open w/o refreshing—but yeah, this is not the hardest item to find].
I'm looking for something with a Levi 511 level of slimness but with a higher rise.
Probably looking at the 1947 501. It's steep, but a great pair of jeans. Arguably the most famous of all cuts considering all the Japanese reproductions of it.
Would something like the 501 originals in Raw Selvedge or 501 shrink-to-fit in Rigid Selvedge work?
How much would a set of 1947 501s cost/where can I get them?
the newer 501s are cut fuller than the 1947, but they could still work depending on your build. you want "levi's vintage clothing" 1947 501
http://trovegeneral.com/ - this is a great local store near me outside Philly. They carry LVC and Tellason.
If they don't have your size, try www.mrporter.com or a few of the site sponsors.
Retail, the LVC is 250 and the Tellason is 200. These are made from similar denim and should last you a very long time. Hence, why I said to save up a little more.
Would the Levi's Vintage 1960 Slim leg here be what I'm looking for? The leg opening on a 31/30 is 12.5 which seems really small though.
i would do the rinsed 47 ort the 54stf
What sort of build is going to work for a 501?
Depends on how you want to look.
As long as it goes well with a tucked in shirt and a sport-coat I'll be pretty happy. Going for an overall conservative look.
Not what I meant.
If you're small legged the 501s might look baggy legged on you.
For those of us at the other end of the scale 501s are skin tight.
I don't want to look like a teenager with baggy pants falling off so I don't mind that the 501s are a close fit for me.
You should really go to a large shop and try the various things on. Between the different cuts and the variations between pants you need to find something you like.
Well I assume that fitted, but not girl-jeans tight, is the proper look to put with a sportcoat, right?
Denim with a SC is a tricky look. You need slim straight jeans. You do not want skin tight but at the same time, don't be worried if the demin does touch your legs. You'd want them cut exactly how your suit pants are cut, if not slightly tighter.
Exactly the information I was looking for. Slim straight with a taper or just slim straight?
Separate names with a comma.
