At the end of last month I purchased a navy silk knit on eBay under the auspices that it was by Drake's. When it arrived, I noticed that it had a somewhat noticeable bump running down the length of the center of the tie, an impression from the seam on the back. This being my first foray into silk knits, I didn't assume it necessarily indicated anything in regards to quality or authenticity. Besides that, I liked the tie, and wore it once, receiving a couple of compliments.

Then I pulled it out to wear again today, and noticed something that made me do a doubletake. At the end of the back blade is a little tag with care instructions that says, at the very bottom, "Made in Germany."

What the hell? Can anyone tell me if Drake's knits are produced in Germany? I had the impression that they are all made in England, but I don't want to start something with the seller if Drake's outsources production of their knits or something. Any info or advice would be appreciated. And if pictures are necessary, I can take some.

I don't know about the Drakes tie you mention but there are only a few places that make knit ties, most brands outsource to them. Hermes had their knit ties made in Germany, not sure if they still do. There is a chance that your tie is from the same place. You can always email Drakes.

Thanks, Ed; that's good to know. I'll send Drake's an email and report back.

Pardon the false alarm; looks like they are in fact produced in Germany, as a quick perusal of Drake's product pages would have told me. Carry on, nothing to see here.

Sorry to revive a very old thread, but a quick question to those who have far more experience with Drake's offerings. I notice most ties have a black Drake's label while I seem to have come across one with a white Drakes label without an apostrophe. It is a lovely tie and seems very well made, but was wondering if it was an alternative label?

I believe there was a short period after Mark Cho and Michael Hill took over where the apostrophe was dropped from the name. For the longest, the company's name was Drake's of London. Then when Michael Drake sold the company to Mark Cho and Michael Hill, I noticed the name was changed to Drakes. At some point, it changed again to just Drake's.

That's from my very casual observation anyway. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
