Yeah, I saw those brogues, they're nice too and probably the closest thing to what I'm looking for. Since you own these, could you please comment on the sizing? same sizing as 1461?

Mine seem maybe a half size larger at most. Thet are a bit wider I think but I have wide ass feet so I have the same size in both. The leather is way different on the brogues. They don't shine up as well but if you keep at them they will shine up okay.

the grey leather on the brogues is way different than the Raf shoes

brogues are more of a waxy leather

the Raf leather is matte but smooth, can develop a shine once you get on them. The grey has sort of a very slight blue-ish cast, where the brogue is more of a true flat grey

I've run into a bit of a dilemma. I recently bought a new pair of 1461s. With the insole, it fits too tight in the top, but the width and length are perfect. If I remove the insole, they fit decently in the top and perfectly in the width, but they feel a bit long. If I size up, they're way too large, and the heel slips a little even with a second insole (my old pair).

I think I prefer wearing them without the insoles, but I'm worried that the insides will start to wear out faster? Does anyone know if this is this a legitimate concern?

In reply to myself, and in case someone else is interested: I think I've found a solution. I bought some insoles that are thinner than the ones that come with the docs, and they feel fine now.

I just got a pretty noticable scuff on the toe of a 1460 while I was walking in a parking lot. Any suggestions for getting it out of this kind of leather? The Dr Martens Wonder Balsam says it helps with scratches, does anybody have exerperience with it?

^^ what color boots? I always use a combo of black and burgundy shoe polish on my oxbloods, pretty much takes care of scratches and what it doesnt it just adds character.

yea regular kiwi black and kiwi bordeux.

speaking of kiwi bordeaux, if anyone knows of a USA source for it post a link. It's a great color for burgundy/oxblood shoes/DMs. Color is different from Kiwi cordovan. I bought it in London and only online stores that seem to have it are in UK as well, so while the price isnt bad, the shipping kills you.

They are a pair of black smooth boots. I haven't actually polished them, I like the color they are now, is there a way to do help with scratches without making them really shiny?

Ah, I think we posted to Vagran's post about the same time suggesting polish. I have only used black polish on my oxblood MIE boots so far. I haven't tried cordovan or bordeaux yet. I have been happy with the results since I wanted to darken them a bit. Only downside to using black is when you get a minor scuff just to the polish, it takes off the black sometimes and you get the true color coming out.

haha. You could just gently apply some polish and then not buff it afterwards. I like my oxblood boots shiny with the black polish though!
