Okay, I don't know if this is really the official tag, but it seems descriptive and gives, at least, the perception of authority. If you don't like brogues I'm sure this shoe is not for you.

It's an interesting style, though, and one not often seen. The u seems a little more casual than the wing, perfect for all the country things we city folk do. I lucked into a couple of pairs of these yesterday in different shades of brown. I have some recollection of Lobb doing a shoe in this vein, but the pictorial archive does not bear out this memory.

It's a beautiful style. I wonder, though: Is it too 'old man' for the sf crowd?

I don't dislike the style, but I'd want to own several pairs of wingtips and cap/half brogues before I ventured down that road.

If you do, consider losing the swan neck. von Rothbart pointed out that the design would be stronger without it and I agree.

Sure, it's also called that.

I agree, and I will keep that in my mind. I am expecting a pair (my first!) of Vass on 3636 last soon in the mail and once I fix down my size, I'll order a pair in shell cordo.

I'm certainly in that boat. But why wait? Each shoe carries its own signifiers. The u-tip seems more squarely a leisure shoe than the wing-tip. Not that that would stop me from wearing either with a suit.

The Macafees don't have the swan neck and it does seem a better design (if we are going to quibble about small things). I would also add a medallion and make the punching larger--really brogue it up!
