Idly looking throught the ebay listings of sausages234 this morning, (well known for Northampton shoes), I spotted a pair of Barker double monks, and something in the thumbnail photo just didn't look right. Had to click through to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

    As the description says...
I know they're seconds, but I don't think Barker should have let these ones out of the factory.
Why did they even finish them?

I wonder if the value will increase with time as much as it would in collectables with misprints or an excess of limbs. Either way that is one fugly shoe.

Actually, that's kind of awesome. Better than those weird, awful triple strap monks that get posted from time to time.

Could be a sample that never made it to full production.

Unwearable. You'll be bashing buckles as you walk. They should never have left the factory.

I don't think this is an "accident." The whole shoe has to be made for that.

Perhaps they were made specifically for sitting crossed-legged in a wingchair by a fireplace with brandy in hand.

Yeah, has to be on purpose. I can't imagine the pieces fitting together as well as they do if someone accidentally put the straps on "backwards". Still looks weird though.

I don't know much about actual shoe crafting, but...

Would there be enough stretch in the leather upper, or are the lasts symmetric enough, that this could be the result of lasting the left upper over the right last and right upper over the left last? Basically, could you last the wrong foot without massive distortions in the shape?

It just looks too cleanly executed to have been done by accident.

Good hypothesis Sizzle. This just may be the case. They are either made on a Monday, made after a Guiness lunch or made by a new employee.

Had they been half a size smaller I would've bought them just for the hipsterism.
