Just noticed a shirt at local store that had double collars? Wtf? Is there a term specific to this style? Seems a bit gaudy and ridiculous.

Just remember, you need to wear two ties with those...

It is indeed gaudy and ridiculous, a lame and transparent attempt to start a new trend that surely anyone with any sense of style will see through and avoid.

I remember seeing the usually impeccable Bryan Ferry go through a phase of wearing Antony Price suits which had a double front piece on one side that at first looked like he was wearing two jackets. I'm pretty sure he regrets it now.

And to top it off, both collars are button down? But I noticed no button on the actual shirt. Is it supposed to have cufflinks (collarlinks?) on the collars and you place the tie in-between the two collars? I cannot wrap my head around this.

wasn't Prada doing this a while ago?

If Prada does something, you can be sure it is impeccably tasteful and above reproach.

It was Dior Homme, and it was pulled off quite well. Everything doesn't have to be made for a day at the office. It's a fairly subtle detail (provided the collars are not different colors or shapes and you don't "pop" one). I like the microcheck on that shirt and I'd wear it in a heartbeat (sans tie) if it fit me.

This I dislike, and it was not the case with Hedi's (or was it KVA era?) variation on the same theme, which was a simple white poplin shirt that had a nearly unnoticeable second collar.

It's common in Japan for men who aren't allowed to wear ties (Cool Biz) in the summer. Strengthens the collar area visually, just like double buttons or contrasting buttonhole thread. They don't always look good, but they don't always look bad.

Well, it doesn't really matter whether it was Prada or Dior, after all. (It was Prada.)

The important thing is, this is a wonderful look - an elegantly diffident yet deliciously witty spin on the old workaday collar.

Highly recommended!!!
