For me, this resides in that rare, liminal space where everything is sooo close to being amazing, but instead it all somehow looks really bad. Death by a thousand cuts?

The styling and cut of the suit doesn't work well with the flannel fabric. But I could see this type of cut being awesome to wear during a night out on the town or an art exhibition.

Any idea of the fabric?

I absolutely agree, but I think both the fit and proportions are off. And yes, the styling seems overwrought, but in a number of small ways, the accumulation of which, ruins the otherwise nicer features of the outfit considered separately.

Just listened to an interview with a chef and his comment resonated with me. "It took 20 years for me to learn what to leave out!"
If you saw my last IG post the comment was similar. "Styling clothes is like seasoning food. Sometimes you only need salt and pepper. Keep it simple."
This suit looks like a combination of 5 different styling ideas taken from random IG pics. Worked into one garment the result is an incoherent look. The Beanie, shirt, tie and shoes are at odds and a distraction to the overall look.
