Dolce and Gabbana suits, who makes them?

Who makes their mainline (not D&G) suits? I just bought one, it is, I think, half-canvassed and has a label that says "luxury" on the inside pocket. It is lovely (no matter what anyone here says).

My salesman at Barneys said Dolce and Gabbana were very cagey when it comes to who makes their suits.

Anyone? Anyone?

I believe that they were once made by Lardini, but I haven`t kept up with Dolce&Gabbana over the past few years and so am not sure if they`ve switched makers (as designers tend to do constantly.) Nevertheless, Lardini would make sense, despite the terrible name, as they are a decent mid-range maker who often half-canvasses the suits and uses decent fabrics. I have one of their self-branded suits with Loro Piana Zelander fabric and, though of course it isn`t Brioni or anything, it is pretty good. Although, I must admit that after another SFer jokingly referred to the brand as `Lardassi` in another set of posts, I have never felt the same about answering when someone asks where I got the suit.

If memory serves, Lardini/assi also make for some other designers like Ferragamo, some of the I Burberry made in Italy stuff, etc.

Somewhere in the archives is an entire thread dedicated to `who makes what for whom,` listing the factories/companies that make for most of the big makers. You may want to try a search there as well.

Years ago the maninline label was fully canvassed. Went to local dept store last week and was shocked to find that they are now fused like diffusion "D&G" line. Prics have also gone up.
