Apparently there isn't enough to do around the Department of Justice these days. They've asked the NCAA why there isn't a football playoff.

Pointed letter...

This is always an awkward issue for me philosophically. On one hand, I love college football and loathe the BCS, but, on the other hand, I'm not convinced that meddling in college football is a great way for the government to spend its time.

Normally I cringe whenever I hear Congress wants to get involved with sports since they're all idiots, but the people who run the BCS are even bigger idiots. If Congress pushes college football to a playoff system, I'm for it.

I'm torn on this as well. I love the importance of every game that the current system results in, but I get so frustrated at the end of every season because I know some school got screwed.

Full disclosure: I am tickled pink that the DOJ is nosing around Indianapolis as the NCAA is really messing with my alma mater over a logo/nickname "issue".

Honestly, it always seems to sort its self out correctly by the end of the season anyway. Does anyone really think that a team that started the season ranked 15th will end up playing in the national championship?

the guys who run the BCS are ******* geniuses. its basically a legal mafia-like based system mixed with a pyramid scheme. instead of using muscle to break your kneecaps, they kneecap the colleges which forced ticket sales.

I guess thats why the DOJ is thinking about getting involved, its so blatantly obviously wrong they need to intervene.

We don't know because there's this poll created by people that I'm ashamed to say is most similar to how figure skating is judged.

UConn was not ranked in the preseason top 25 in basketball this past year.

I would be surprised, frankly, if the NCAA doesn't tell the DOJ, "we've been trying to set up a playoff but these money-hungry bastards at the BCS won't play ball."

I understand the NCAA is making more money than Bill Gates with the hoops tourney, but they have to look at the BCS cash and want in on that.
