I bought an awesome Sean John shirt a few weeks ago only to bring it home to have my wife tell me I was not eminem. Personally, I think it is a very tasteful and good-looking shirt. Combs seemingly went out of his way to make his shirts look appealing to all. There really is no gaudiness to it at all, from the design to the logo (just a small SJ). I really like this shirt and realize that's all that matters, but I'm curious what the word on the street is...bottom line, can a plain old rock and rolling white boy wear this shirt or should I return it?

    Thanks to all.

Please guys...I don't want to look like an idiot despite liking the shirt.

I'm siding with your wife, sorry. Unfortunately, branded clothing comes with marketed images firmly attached - and a good part of your money goes to buying that image, despite all anyone's protestations to the contrary.

Unless you are black or in the 15-25 demographic, I wouldn't recommend Sean John. But if you must, you'd better be prepared to hip hop it up.

While I agree with LAG for the most part (ALL designer gear is about image, why else do Dolce & Gabbana jeans cost $250 and Levi's $50?), if you're going to wear the SJ shirt with other stuff, it can work. I was given a button up, print SJ shirt which I've worn with a navy blazer and 501s and it looked OK, though it was mostly covered up. Up close, you wouldn't know it was a SJ shirt. However, if worn how it was meant to be worn (flaunted flash style) it would not work.

That's the problem I have with hip hop style in general. It's all logo-wear, there's no sophistication at all.

Thanks for your responses guys...it's going back. I like it a lot, but not THAT much and I do not really like P-Diddy, Puffnuts, whatever he goes by at all. I didn't want to support him, but I did like the shirt. I think what I needed was a little outside info to confirm what I already knew and planned to do.
