Does anyone here have an interesting job?

Unfortunately most people in my social network are in banking, consulting, other corporate functions, or arts/design (a field I do not have sufficient talent or training for).

Do any of you out there have interesting jobs? I will let you decide what is interesting. With the caveat that finance, accounting, traditional consulting, and IT are considered un-interesting for the purposes of this thread.

Creative advertiser. Commercials, print, radio, award shows. You meet a LOT of great people and travel a lot doing this. Though, my interests and hobbies are the interesting things.

Honestly, and this is my opinion, if someone enjoys what they do, it's an interesting job to me. They always have great stories to tell. I can't stop getting into the stories my bodyguard friends and taxi-driving buddies tell me.

me too. i an 50% owner of an interactive advertising agency. everything from enterprise level site development to banners, facebook/iphone/andrioid apps, planning and strategy, online video.

my uncle is the personal bodyguard of one of the 10 richest men in the world but i can't divulge too much. that is an interesting job.

I work in solar cell development.

The level of sophistication in the semiconductor industry and knowledge is so high that I think most people wouldn't begin to have a grasp of how far human civilization has advanced.

For instance, in the United States, we organize our financial lives in order to look good to the pathetically simplistic computer programs that determine our credit ratings. We borrow money when we don't need to, for example, to feed the type of data to the programs that we know they are programmed to respond to favorably.

In doing this, we make ourselves stupid in order to make the computer software seem smart. In fact we continue to trust the credit rating software even though there has been an epidemic of personal bankruptcies during a time of very low unemployment and great prosperity.

We have caused the Turing test to be passed. There is no epistemological difference between artificial intelligence and the acceptance of badly designed computer software.

Look up things like thin films and mems. The actual technology is very fascinating and is extremely accurate on a scale that is hard to fathom (ie atomic level perfection.)

Even something as commonly used as a silicon wafer is a marvel of perfection.

My job is to get an education. It doesn't pay great but there is nothing else I'll I'd rather be doing. There more time I spend at university the more I think I'd like a career in academia.

I'm a tour manager, and I currently work for Cut Copy, The Presets, and Panic at the Disco.

People seem to think my job is interesting...

School was a good time. I'm definitely going back, just need to figure out where.

I am in charge of international sales for an american manufacturer. I would say, from the reactions I get from people, it is a very interesting job. I get to maybe 40-50 countries a year, often several times, have maybe 100 good business meals a year around the world, do largescale muliti-cultural negotiations on a regular basis and manage people from differnt cultures. yesterday I spent the day riding around chicago in a stretch hummer with 10 people from a customer organization from colombia, had lunch at at good steak house and generally had fun - all part of the job.


I have been a bodyguard, a recon paratroop sargeant and have tought soliders from a foreign country to fight for money - frankly none are anywhere as interesting as they sound.

I'm a broadcast animator on the commercial post-production end though.

I'm currently working in an archive which is fairly interesting. For most of my working life I was a field archaeologist, which was a lot more interesting.
