After the Spanish American war, US soldiers in the Philippines bought cotton slacks from Chinese merchants. The slacks were originally produced in England, exported to China, and then imported to the Philippines. The GI's either didn't know or didn't care about the slacks country of origin and dubbed them "Chinos", the Spanish word for "China" or "Chinese."

It is tough to find good chinos cloths at reasonable prices. I sometimes think that getting chinos bespoke is like getting sneakers bespoke.

i think they were military issue so they were never bespoke.
