does anyone else get a little sad when a favorite item of clothing dies?

I'm unpacking my stuff and I came across my favorite pair of Zegna socks, which now have a hole in them. They were burnt orange and tan egyptian cotton with that awesome seamless toe. They were so comfortable and they frequently drew comments for their sexiness. I've had them since 2004 or 2005, so they lasted surprisingly long given how often I wore them. They really were my favorite pair of socks. I really am a little sadder today. They were irreplaceable. I had a cashmere sweater die on me last year, but the passing of these socks has hit me harder.

+1. I don't really know why, but it does make me a bit sad to get rid of clothes. Some pieces have memories attached to them (oh, I wore this shirt to so-and-so's party, etc.) Maybe it's just me though.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
