Does anybody actually hate all red ties?

Basically everyone said how I feel, too - bright red is a no but burgundy looks really nice against a blue shirt. One of my favorite combos.

It's all in the sheen and the shade.

IMO bright red dominates the overall appearance too much as it draws one's eyes to the tie and not much else.

I like darker reds/burgundies. And red reps and/or patterns.

Maybe the point is don't let the tie dominate the overall appearance? Like a large chested female - you may miss her face?

My impression is that SF's purported dislike of red ties is limited to solids; at least I haven't gotten the impression that a majority here object to red as a component in, say, a striped tie. That's certainly my position, at least.

It's crucial, however, to distinguish red from burgundy. Medium to dark burgundy and navy are two of the most versatile solid colors for ties in my opinion, and I'm pretty sure that others here share that opinion.

    Cheers,

    Ac

Burgundy is fine in any pattern (solid, dots, stripes,...)

brighter red is more difficult, but I have a red with navy stripes made from irish poplin, which I like a lot. guess the stripes and the finish of irish polin help to tame it and make it look less Donald Trump-like.

I came in to SF disliking red ties. It was how I knew I belonged here.

I think one should ask oneself - "Would Donald Trump wear this tie?"

If the answer is YES, you know you have a problem.

Most of those I quite like, Clags.

I have several burgundy ties that I wear frequently. It's fire-engine red that's just about impossible to do well IMO.

In response to OtherTravel's question, I'd say that tie is a bit too primary-color red for me. Not the worst I've ever seen, but I'd look for something a bit more on the burgundy end of things.

^ What he said for the most part. I personally don't really care for the first tie Claghorn posted but the others seem to work decently.

Down with the burgundy (the darker the better), hate anything lighter, solid or accent/element within a pattern regardless.

Then again I only wear navy ties, so I'm biased.

Besides my burgundy ties, I have one dark red tie that is a guilty pleasure:
