Does any high end/top shirtmaker make shirts with horizontal buttonholes only?

so other than an exercise in technical expertise, what's the practical use of such a placement?

How about requesting that the cotton used to make the shirt be hand harvested by only Italians and hand-processed like the days of old.

And maybe hand-dyed in small batches and loomed/weaved by hand too?

I think I have an older XMI dress shirt with horizontal button holes. I actually much prefer the vertical buttonholes, as they are much easier to button/unbutton.

Maybe he just wants horizontal button holes because he likes the way they look.

Traditionally, only the sleeve placket gets horizontal buttonholes. The traditional explanation escapes me at this moment.

One does not have horizontal buttonhole on the front of the shirt because it would create excess side-to-side movements of the front of the shirt.

None of my shirts have horizontal button-holes on the sleeve placket either, they're all parallel to the edge the same as those on the front placket.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
