So I had a nice chat with my brother, and it appears both our doctors, who want us to lose weight, say we should stop drinking cocktails and beer. Spirits are preferable due to the lower calorific content, which is true. At least from my experience spirits have a connotation more severe health effects and higher incidence of abuse (I don't know if that is true).

What have other's healthcare professionals said about alcohol use?
