No, the reason why watches in the military are worn that way is to avoid unwanted reflections from the glass and dial.

oh, that makes sense. that's why my father used to wear his watch that way. not sure military style would suit an office environment, especially when using a keyboard comes into play.
one of my watches has a black dial with non-reflective coating on both sides of the crystal, i suspect the military would OK my request to wear it like a civilian.
i have heard that a mechanical watch has to be calibrated differently if you wear it military-style. that would deter me from ever doing it, i think.
