Do you tie your laces above or below the tongue?

I see many of you tie your shoe laces above the tongue but I also see pictures of shoes that do not show the laces at all.

Which do you prefer and why?

Cheers

I think you are referring to promotional pictures of footwear manufacturers/retailers or editorial photographs in magazines.

In these photographs the laces get usually tucked in, as not to have unsightly knotted laces dangling down, detracting from the line of the shoe.

Once you wear the shoes you knot them in the normal way above the tongue and show dangling ends.
(You cannot tie shoes under the tongue - after all, one purpose of the tongue is to prevent the knot rubbing against the bone of your foot.)

Not just him,

I see this all the time with people who come in, they will take the laces, come in the top set of eyelets, then behind the top of the tongue of the shoe and tie the laces there.

Usually these are people who do not tie/untie their laces and instead just sort of cram their feet into the shoe.

The knot then does rub on the dorsum, but then again, we all wear shoes as fashion, if not I can promise you the pictured shoe would not exist on pure foot function/biomechanics/foot health principles. So some will sacrifice an annoyance on the top of their foot to have a nice clean shoe appearance, and others will step the heel down and stand on it, and some will even tuck the tongue of the shoe under...

Interestingly enough there are literally hundreds of ways to lace shoes for style, fit improvement etc. Some are pretty neat, for kids who don't like to tie/untie their shoes I've even started keeping elastic cord around, I'll just replace the laces and tie it good and firm so their feet won't slide about.

Though this might be the exact opposite of what you are referring to, haha.

This!

I've seen this but I didnt know if they laced them under the tongue let the laces "hang" within the shoe.

I'd wager 90% have a granny knot in there, (not the granny vs. reef debate) but a square knot tied inappropriately to form a small ball that is very difficult to undo(real square knots come undone nicely) Which leads to the sneaking off to the lab to pick the knot apart with a screwdriver before attempting to fit the insert.
