Do you think white sneakers are necessary for a man to be in possession of?

I bought a pair this year and have worn them once. Every now and then I think about wearing them and choose something else because I don't like the thought of dirtying them!

No. Sneakers for me are purely utilitarian. I wear them when I run or go to the gym. Don't care what color they are or what they look like.
Same here. I have even tried buying sneakers (Ralph Lauren, Gucci, LW) but all pretty much worn once and then thrown into the closet. If Im going casual I'll take a pair of penny loafers.

Yes, but people pay way too much for them. Just buy a pair of white canvas sneakers and be done with it. Quit overthinking everything. Van's, Converse, Tretorn, Sperry are all good options. I have a pair of K-Swiss that I love but unfortunately they have discontinued the canvas version. If you must have leather sneakers buy a pair of Stan Smith's. Spending $400 on a pair of Common Projects is just idiotic.

While white sneakers can make for a nice foundation or accent, some can make you look dated and any white sneaker can look out of place when there is real winter going on. So... "esssential" or.. "trans-seasonal"? No.

I live in a city and often walk miles in a day, especially on a weekend. Sneakers are the only practical choice for someone who walks a great deal.

I don't get the obsession with sneakers. They can work in certain times and for certain people but they certainly don't deserve this de facto prominence as the go-to shoe. Outside of these fine quarters of course.
So to answer your original post - No, unless you find yourself below 14th street in NYC then seemingly they are required.
