No, normally not, at least not in Western homes. In my own flat, I do have some shoes that are used almost exclusively indoors.

With wrestling shoes, you can be a real sidler.

Removing shoes is expected in most Asian households. I often remove my shoes when entering non-Asian households out of courtesy.

Depends.

I have a strong tendency to switch to casual clothes when I come home and with casual clothes come casual shoes, so ...
Moreover, I have a pair of Docksides which I mostly use indoor.
But, if I keep my suit, I'll keep my shoes as well.

For those of us here who might not know, can you explain what "sidle" means?

My wife's Hindu. Its an affront to the Gods and all things civilized to walk into a house with shoes on in her culture. Of course there is also cow, dog, chicken, buffalo, and monkey dung everywhere in her country of origin, so as with most cultural injunctions there was a common sense reason for it.

But since the carpet will also stay cleaner and last longer even sans dung, yes, I take them off.

Yes, It is the custom out here. Everyone takes their shoes off before entering a home. But most of us have tile floors and their is a huge asian influence. I have placed a nice shelf for people to park them just inside the front door. that way they don't have to walk in their stocking feet across the porch. Bob in Guam
