no. I moved a huge amount as a kid - 13 houses in my first 14 years. another pretty much 20+ times until I settled where I am now. lived in one apartment for 5 years now, the most ever in my life. I have as a goal staying on one place until all my kids have graduated from high school.

there is a very large number of people in my present town who grew up here. I am always shocked by how many people have come back here after school.

No.

NYC through High School. Both in the city and in Brooklyn.

Houston, Tx. ever since ( many years ). With a few long term trips ( work and play ) mixed in the Houston years. Places like Dallas, Tx. for 6 months which was nice and Lausanne, Switzerland for 4 months which was fantastic.

I am basing this purely on anecdotal evidence but this seems pretty common in the U.S. And if people do move, it's often to the next suburb over or whatever.

Not really. But I'm not far from where I grew up. I grew up in the sticks about an hour north of Detroit then lived in North Carolina for about 5 years and in Japan for a year when I was in the Marine Corps. Now I live in the suburbs about 20 minutes from downtown Detroit.

Yes! I'm happy for now, as it's a fantastic city. If I'd grown up in a small Canadian or midwest town and still lived there, however, I'd want to killself.

I live 50 miles from where I grew up.

Oddly, I just found out that my neighbor (who shares my surname but is unrelated) has a son who owns the house I grew up in.
