Just wanted to ask and proclaim: I love it, the shawarma!

It's 10 minutes to noon, and I am mad craving some shawarma from a small place a few blocks from work. Too bad tomorrow is my last day at this job, I shall dearly miss the shawarma; oil dripping off grilled seasoned meat with some hummus and tabbouleh.

Anybody from Vancouver know any good shawarma places?

you can't go wrong with a good Shwarma sandwich. Fortunately there are 2 great eateries near me that serve it. Shwarma, a filo stuffed with spinach and cheese pastry and a baklava for dessert is a perfect meal.

Love it the shawarma. Or a good gyro. Both have their charms. Damn, I feel like one right now.

There is a place on Denman that has some of the best I've ever had. It's two stores down from English Bay Eye Care and across an alley from a Thai restaurant (I believe it's a Banana Leaf). Just follow your nose. A

Is one of them in the 3rd Street Farmer's Market, by chance?

Taste good, but has a nasty garlic after taste.

A Persian friend of mine and his family have the same complaint about that place. Iranians don't use like to use a lot of garlic in their meals and typically don't like Armenian-style meats. I, on the other hand, am a full supporter of Zankou and garlic-infused products.

Which place is this? Al-Wazir with chains around LA (I go to the one in Hollywood) is fairly decent. There's a small place in Burbank on San Fernando (Knight Restaurant) that claims to be Greek but as with most Greek/Mediterranean places in Glendale/Burbank, it's actually owned by Armenians. Still, their shawarma sandwiches are incredibly delicious and dirt cheap. The owner/cook is a hell of a nice guy, too. Anyone here try Shamshiri either in Westwood or Glendale? HIGHLY recommended.

The Maroush restaurants (or at least the one on Beauchamp place) make an incredible mixed (chicken/lamb) shawarma.

Yum, lamb shwarma on hummus with fresh oven bread, cold pressed olive oil, and tabbuloeh, how can you go wrong? Oh yeah, don't forget one of those spicey pickles too.

Mmmmm, love the shawarma!

Anybody have a good receipe for some shawarma sauce?? I used to go to a place that had a choice of a garlic or a sweet sauce. The sweet one was amazing. Anybody know what it would be made of?

The sweet sauce could be 'tahini' - sesame seed oil. It's off-white in colour, fairly viscous, and frequently used on felafel rolls. Sometimes they mix chilli powder into it.
