Do you have a tendency to look at a particular eye?

When having a conversation, I usually find myself looking at someone's left eye (my right). Does anyone know if this has psychological significance? Do any of you feel that you have the same tendency?

Quit doing that. You make people think they have eye boogers.

I look at their mouth 'cause I'm half deaf and use sentence context + lip reading to understand everything. 1 on 1 in a quiet environment I look in the eye.

What weirds me out is when people have a dead eye or something and you spend a few seconds noticing it and realizing oh **** look at the other eye. But then you can't not look at the dead one staring off some random direction.

My fiance was born without a pupil and has no vision in her right eye -- just a prosthetic resin cap over all the scar tissue from multiple failed surgeries.

So I always look at her left eye.

If I'm close enough to focus on one eye, or the person is cross-eyed, I just focus on the spot above their nose, right between their eyes. A person can't tell which eye you're looking at if you look at that spot. Their dominant eye (typically the same as their dominant hand) will think you're looking at it.

So it appears that few people here actually look people straight in the eye...

I thought maintaining eye contact is the first law that a good conversationalist abides by.
