Depends on the brogues. Some can and do look old man, but some don't.
Sometimes old-man brogues are just what an outfit needs, even on a young dude. I like a clunky longwing with a slim trou, for example.

I don't think I've ever owned a pair of wingtips. Not sure. Maybe 25 years ago I had a pair. I don't think so, but I don't really remember.
I don't hate them. I think that they look OK on others and maybe I would like them if I ever got a pair, but it's just not something that's ever risen to the top of my list.

I usually can't stand wingtip with brogues (actually don't like wingtip in general), the only time I like brogues is on wholecut (no brogues on cap toe for me either). I usually like brogues just on the tip, not all over the place.
