+1. The more appropriate question (for me) might be do you aspire to be a dandy. In my case no, but when I retire, I will have too much time on my hands.

I'm not independently wealthy, consistently fail to complete published works of literature and occasionally sport t-shirts

The art/music/film world is full of dandies, and I would also offer that someone who spends $400 for a pair of jeans and doesn't wash them for 6 months to get the fade "just right" is every bit as much a dandy as someone who fusses over bespoke shirts.

Dandyism is all around us, it's just not wearing velvet and growing orchids like it used to. I think the term "aesthete" is more descriptive.

Ah, good points.

How could that man be considered a dandy? I mean, considering where he purchased the items... Urban Outfitters, H&M, Century 21. I expect bespoke.

That guy is trying too hard in my opinion. It looks costumey, not genuine or natural.

^ He considers himself a dandy; it's important to have self belief in these cases

I know a dandy who pulls together appealing looks from at least one of those mall brands due to his good aesthetic taste. Of course, it's mixed well with MTM and vintage pieces, but it forms the basis, nonetheless

I love conservative clothes and want to look right more than getting attention at any cost..

My aspirations are too average to be a Dandy...

I just love my suits and shoes...

I disagree completely. You're mistaking "dandy" for "enthusiast of anything."

I think part of being a "dandy" is overaccessorizing just for the sake of it.

It reminds me of a season of "The Apprentice" a few years ago (yes, the one with Donald Trump), where one of the contestants was always well-dressed in PRL-looking suits and patterns, and one day he showed up with a walking cane as an accessory even though he was a completely healthy, young man. Everyone gave him crap for it including Trump, and he was fired soon thereafter.
