Do piercings disappear after a while?

I'm thinking about getting my ears pierced. I'm in college now, and I definitely know that I won't want them when I get out, or maybe even in a year.

That's the only thing stopping me. If I take them out in a year, will it be noticeable that I've had a piercing? How about the cartilage? I'm sure it'll depend on the person, type of skin, etc. too, right? I know that the hole will 'close up' but, will it leave a mark?

If it's in the ears.....

No, it won't be really noticeable.

No, it won't fully close up.

I had my lobes pierced about two years ago, I think tomorrow I'll try shoving my 14 gauge captives back through them since the hole's still there...

depends how large the gauge of the needle is. And please, go to a tattoo/piercing shop to get it done (not a stand in the mall)

One word of advice: After a month or two, you won't even notice they're there anymore, so if you're not looking for a permanent look, don't get them pierced. If it's an impulse thing, don't do it.

Mine will never close up all the way, 4g hollow needle.

I took my earrings and nipple rings out many years ago (8-10?) and yes, you can still see where they were pierced. Are they that noticeable? No. But you can still tell if you are close to me that my ears were pierced.

I took out my earing 10-12 years ago, and the hole is completely closed up. you can see it was there, but nothing goes through it.

Same for my eyebrow piercing. I guess if I shave my eyebrow, it'll grow back normal.

The ones you can still see: EARS. Taken out years ago. You won't get anything through, but you can see the "holes".

The ones you can't see: nipples, tongue, septum, eyebrow.

Do not ask me why they are different. But you can clearly see the ears. And they were not a large gauge (18?). The tongue heals the fastest--probably within hours, def. within a day.

It's a chance game, it might and it might not. Most likely it's so so small people won't see/care so I wouldn't worry about it. Also why the **** would you want to get your ears pierced as a guy? (if you were a girl you'd have that done ages ago.) There is really no excuse to how gay/lame it looks. Go for the eyebrow/chin/tung if you must.

Not in the ears. But if you pierce some place like your eyebrow, then the hole will eventually grow and seal up, then you'd have to repierce it again.

I have my ears gauged and if you are carefully about it and do it correctly they will properly heal. Most kids that I know pierced their ears and wanted to go immediately to a double zero and end up blowing the cartilage in their ears outside, looks so nasty. I'm at a four right now and I've done it very gradually over a stretch of 2 years.

I'm curious, why would you want to get your ears pierced if you know you don't want them pierced in a year or two? Don't do it if you don't want it permanently is my advice. You can use clip-ons instead.
