Do either of these ties match this shirt?

Still trying to learn what works and doesn't work, but today I picked up this shirt and these ties. Was wondering if either of these ties go well the shirt.



I'm slowly trying to build an adequate selection of work appropriate outfits. I typically dress for comfort which consists of jeans/khakis , t-shirts, toms or slip on shoes (or flip flops when I feel like it) and lack any real style. Soon I'm going to have to step it up a notch and dress nicer, as my job will require me to deal with people more. This means button up shirts and ties.

How'd I do? Eh? I really have no idea how to match ties to shirts.

I'll try to get a new shot in the morning, about to crash. I've got a slew of dress shirts, but everything pictured is what I got today for less than $5 thrifting. I'm not usually a fan of short-sleeve dress shirts either, but being a tall skinny dude leaves me with a lot of ill fitting long sleeved dress shirts that I need to get tailored. This short sleeve one fit me relatively well.

Between those two I would take the blue one.

A checked shirt needs a solid tie. Also, I understand your reason for short sleeve shirts, but wearing one with a tie do not cut it in the business world, or in a formal setting.

I would choose the blue tie between these two ties....so go for blue tie...
And its good to choose short sleeves shirt as it fits you the best...fitting matters a lot.

Not a formal shirt and best not paired with a tie.

Sorry to say it, but those shirts and ties are horrible. And since you spent a whopping total of 5 bucks on them, it's no wonder. If you are serious about upgrading your business wardrobe, do yourself a favor and spend some real money on some quality, versatile staples. Thrifting can come later. I suggest you browse the "Styleforum 101" articles at the top of the site, as well as the stickied "What Are You Wearing Right Now" threads.

And if you insist on wearing short sleeve "dress" shirts, forget the tie, as others have said.

These shirts are not appropriate for a work environment. Please do yourself a favor and go buy some solid light blue shirts. Preferably with a mid spread collar. The points are too close together on your blue and yellow and white shirt

Other big issues:

-The circumference of your shirt collars are too big.

I think the top combo looks OK, but it's hard to tell when the picture isn't so detailed.

As for the subsequent post with the checked shirt, a) the tie pattern is similar in size and colour to the shirt pattern, so it's not ideal; b) open neck would look better. I would find it difficult to pick any tie to go with that shirt as the colours are fairly loud and there's a lot going on. Perhaps a black tie with some woven/grenadine/woolen texture. Anything shiny and/or with colour would look pretty bad.

A plain navy tie with the top shirt would be ok.

I agree with some that the blue tie works better. But what I'm not agreeing on is the short sleeves.
