Disturbing Christian film reviews

I came across this site a while ago looking for film reviews and was stunned in disbelief. It is an example of the worst type of small minded self righteous fundamentalist Christian killjoyism. Its also pretty hilarious. They spend hours watching films searching for lewd glances and acts of rebellion and give them all a purity score. I'm happy to mock as I don't even believe they mean well.

These are people who proclaim to not pick bits of scripture to suit themselves but apply all scripture equally. They then call Harry Potter's use of magic evil and corrupting but decide Mary Poppins was probably an angel so its ok for her to do spells.

^Wow... they actually have a negative ranking/warning category for films that had "implied intercourse by cohabitation." I think that must be EVERY film ever made....

Brokeback Mountain (which they don't like incidentally) loses marks for 'keeping old shirt of deceased homosexual partner as memento', amongst many other sinful themes.

Yeah, this site was briefly funny when I first found it, but it gets creepy and horrifying very fast.

^Exactly. I perused for fifteen seconds, had a laugh in the first three or four, and then realized that these people weren't joking....

This is why Gov. Palin's candidacy is so dangerous.

Holy. Fucking. Shit. Who even mentioned Islam??? Anyways, I think they ought to be put in prison for criminally poor web design.

^Alright, boys, we're talking about good ol' Xian family values on this thread, from the evils of TEH GHEYZ to the implied sexuality of "cohabitation."

So, take your partisan infighting back to the CEsspool, where it belongs!!! (haha j/k)

Anyway, I think that the reviewers saw a different version of many of the movies than I did. For example, I glanced briefly at the review for "The Thirteenth Warrior" (with Antonio Banderas) and they had a negative rating for "Child nudity including genitalia."

Ummm... what version of the movie WERE they watching??? Maybe the guys at the video store have been having some fun switching DVDs, knowing when the Xian-camp is coming???

This is brilliant, from the review of Casino Royale:

There were then two actual murders in the film, both rather graphic plus a graphic scene of a murder victim. One of them garnered an "Oh, yeah!" from one of the teens in the audience.

I love it. They go into an in depth, scene by scene analysis of every drink, every swear, every implication of sex and then say, oh, yeah, he killed a bunch of people but they totally deserved it, 'cause he's a 'lawman.'

If that doesn't sum up what's wrong with the American Moralizers in a nutshell, I don't know what does.

Maybe the thread should be moved. It has potential.

Why is this such a problem? They are reviewing films for other like minded individuals, from what I can tell. Unless we are on a mission to root out all stupidity, I can't find myself caring about this. I mean, it is weird, but so are lots of people.

Isn't the whole beauty of the internet that we get to discover and laugh at the small-minded idiocy of everyone else?
