Distinguishing features between quality 7-fold and mediocre 7-fold ties?

I've just gotten my hands on some 7-fold Borelli but I feel like there's more to it than just the construction. They don't feel any more luxurious than my run of the mill Ford era Gucci and S. Ricci ties.

The difference between a cheap department store tie and a good tie is quite remarkable -- like night and day. The difference between a $150 tie and a $250 tie is almost nothing. I have Borrelli, Kiton, Barba, etc. ties. They're nice ties -- if you get them at a massive discount. Otherwise stick with Panta, Sam Hober, and other SF favorites.

Finally, in my opinion, 7-fold ties are waaaay overrated. In fact I like them considerably less than 6-fold ties.

Preach it.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
