Depending on your industry Wollongong (and the surrounds) or Bateman's Bay could be great. I do hear good things about Newcastle, it's apparently changed quite a bit in the last 15 years, so there's that.

I actually really liked Canberra for a great mix of smart people, enough to do, easy to live in. But I like the outdoors, don't go to many events and am happy seeing friends at a BBQ rather than anything more busy.

My apartment building has a ridiculous electronic package locker thing that seems to be becoming common. It emails me when I get a package and I have to scan a QR code to retrieve it. I wonder if there's something like this for houses.

This is completely normal in Tokyo appartment buildings - usually of several sizes. Mostly not QR codes though - just much simpler personal codes - the delivery company can set the number and puts a note in your mailbox.

Not really fashion related but that rolling luggage DTC leaked slack chat story that's going around today sure seems like a thing that might be taught in future business programs. I'm curious as to how they'll handle this self dealt bad PR hand from here.

I honestly don't know what's going on here.

Strange story. Not fashion related, but retail

Excerpt:

But here’s where things get strange: Toys “R” Us doesn’t seem to actually own what it’s selling. Instead, the former toy giant has become a marketplace leasing out space to different brands where they can promote and sell their own goods. That’s not all: The Toys “R” Us website is powered through Target. Every single toy and product we clicked on at the website featured a link to buy the toy through Target. As far as we can tell, Toys “R” Us isn’t technically selling anything on its own.

There’s also the little detail in an NBC report that b8ta, the company who partnered with Tru Kids to create the new Toys “R” Us store, has installed dozens of sensors in the ceiling of the store to “monitor traffic patterns and shopper cadence” to see where kids and parents are going and what brands they’re more attracted to. That’s right: Toys “R” Us is monitoring where kids go to produce data for brands.

Interesting article on Ralph Lauren in the New Yorker. Mostly about the recent documentary and the fading of Lauren's appeal. Not overly negative, everything fades. Think I'll still watch the doc eventually.

Is tracking what people do in a store actually disallowed, though? Seems like if it were, security cameras would be problematic, too.

I've been getting back into Ralph and RRL off of years off.

I'm having some trouble with Polo. Too garish for me. Purple Label remains very appealing. I'm more of a CM-guy so no surprises there.

I watched the doc on HBO: it's very hagiographic. Not surprising I guess, but nothing really new. Would skip unless you are super into RL.

What's up with their prices:(? Jeans for $400 and cargo pants for $300? Polo and RRL were reasonably priced when I was younger but these prices are a bit much these days.

No idea apart from the general sense that the middle is hollowing-out. I think @dieworkwear has mentioned this before. Stores seem to be going Zara/H&M or seriously upscale. I always thought Polo and RRL were designed for mass appeal? Hard to imagine with those prices.

Of course, RLPL isn't really very affordable at retail either. That stuff has gone through the roof. Extreme examples, but still:
