Depending on your industry Wollongong (and the surrounds) or Bateman's Bay could be great. I do hear good things about Newcastle, it's apparently changed quite a bit in the last 15 years, so there's that.

I actually really liked Canberra for a great mix of smart people, enough to do, easy to live in. But I like the outdoors, don't go to many events and am happy seeing friends at a BBQ rather than anything more busy.

My apartment building has a ridiculous electronic package locker thing that seems to be becoming common. It emails me when I get a package and I have to scan a QR code to retrieve it. I wonder if there's something like this for houses.

This is completely normal in Tokyo appartment buildings - usually of several sizes. Mostly not QR codes though - just much simpler personal codes - the delivery company can set the number and puts a note in your mailbox.

Interesting article on Ralph Lauren in the New Yorker. Mostly about the recent documentary and the fading of Lauren's appeal. Not overly negative, everything fades. Think I'll still watch the doc eventually.

I watched the doc on HBO: it's very hagiographic. Not surprising I guess, but nothing really new. Would skip unless you are super into RL.

No idea apart from the general sense that the middle is hollowing-out. I think @dieworkwear has mentioned this before. Stores seem to be going Zara/H&M or seriously upscale. I always thought Polo and RRL were designed for mass appeal? Hard to imagine with those prices.

Of course, RLPL isn't really very affordable at retail either. That stuff has gone through the roof. Extreme examples, but still:
