Actually, Simon (Whitfield) won gold in the first Olympic triathlon. I know his family here, so I can't get that wrong! ;)

More recently we've had Dylan Wykes go to the World Champs and Olympics in the marathon, and there are these two sisters, Branna and Brogan, who are kicking everyone's ass right now: https://runningmagazine.ca/sections...re-taking-on-u-sports-cross-country-together/ - they shot past me a few months back and disappeared into the distance...

Oh, and there is actually a mall in Kingston (the Cataraqui Centre) but we don't like to talk about it... more seriously it has caused some damge to the downtown, and the people who live round the mall and all the big box stores in the same area really don't come downtown at all because parking is 'expensive'.

Huh, I just looked it up, and welp, you are dead correct. So strange that I've mixed up the places for so many years in my own head. Apparently he lives in Victoria now, and I am probably going to be there cornering an MMA match at the end of the month, so maybe I ought to look him up. It's doubtful that he'd remember me at all though. I loved out of Kingston in 1997, so it's been a long time.

Back in the day, when it first opened, the Cataraqui Town Center was the big news, but my impression was the the crowds downtown and at the mall were pretty different. I grew up about 15-20 minutes run from Queen's University at a decent pace, and that entire neighbourhood off King St. along the water is rather more genteel than the neighbourhoods that feed the Cataraqui. I haven't been back in a while, though I plan to visit back maybe this fall, and am curious abou the changes. I hope that some one my favorite spots are still around. In fact, I'll look them up now.

Unfortunately I won't be around in the Fall (I've got a sabbatical so we'll be in Europe and then back in Tokyo for 4 months) or I'd buy you a drink. I think Kingston is doing okay, although the downtown has become a lot more entertainent / dining / tourist-oriented. There are fewer ordinary shops than there used to be (even since I arrived in 2009). But that makes it even better for food (and especially things like craft beer) than it used to be. The student area has spread taking over more and more streets around the university and there are quite a few new large blocks of student housing being build further up Princess.

I'm told that Simon is mainly doing ocean paddle-boarding now, and takes small groups on some serious expeditions... I always thought he should have gone into Ironman - but apparently he'd had enough of tri.

I guess Salma Hayek chose well! She wouldn't return my calls...

Lol. Wrong Frenchman. She is married to Pinault. He is worth a paltry 37.9 billion!

Aha! I’ll have to update my French billionaire flash card set. Must be out of date!

Umm, what?

Just read that Pinault also knocked up Linda Evangelista. Wonder if the kid is named Meal Ticket Evangelista?

Francois Pinault is the guy who built PPR (now Kering) and was the lifelong rival of Bernard Arnault. His son, who fell into the CEO seat naturally, is the one who married Salma
