I saw this, not sure what the tags say. But I have a real issue with these things
It’s almost as if fashion is dead and the organizations like the CFDA. Vogue etc has nothing to offer to young, smaller designers in America other than Amazon and now Zara.

Sad to see Neighbour close their Toronto store. Still very worried about small businesses everywhere and hope this isn't a sign of trouble for their Vancouver location.

Vancouver store probably has much higher rent but it's in an interesting location that normally sees a lot of foot traffic. Hopefully a different situation since I can't imagine the Toronto store had many people walking by. Davenport is actively unpleasant.

Agreed - it was always just out of the way enough for me as an out-of-towner to make a trip over, given the odd spot that it was in. That location also had problems with their AC back from before they took over the lease from Working Title, but I don't know if they ever got that fixed after the space takeover.

I have a hard time believing this value prop can endure. Screams "adverse selection" for me, but I also have gotten a lot better about not buying things during sale season just because they're cheap. I imagine this does a lot of the lifting in terms of value prop to both consumers and to the brands offloading merch:

On Scarce’s Instagram feed (over 116,000 followers), you’ll find the influencer @soberyungwalter holding a Scarce box, as if he’d nabbed the holy grail, while wearing a ghost-white Canada Goose puffer. Heat’s Instagram (over 650,000 followers) features well-lit photoshoots of cascading Yeezy sneakers and Palm Angels’s track pants. These meticulous presentations call to mind high-fashion magazines, not the messy racks of Century 21.

I got paywalled on the article but it's interesting for sure. I know that Outlier does releases where they got rid of deadstock and returns with a mystery box type deal. Abe is a very smart guy, so I think there's some utility and ways to use it for brands as they've continued to do it.

With these other ones... seems like the intention is to sell consumption and shareable experiences. There's no object to covet, consider, or judge until you've opened the box... just a potential. Seems like a dopamine gamble that could be very bad for some people's habitual nature.
