Nike quarterly numbers got released Yesterday. Sales YOY down 38%. Margins are down as well despite online-sales increasing significantly. The top line getting smacked is not that surprising, but margins down shows that shipping, returns, and online fulfillment can be more costly. Tough for everyone.

Timing of the GAP deal with Kanye's group is interesting. I like it.

Buying doesn’t really take place there anyway, and the impact of runway shows is unclear. Travel within the EU seems to be being restored, so at least some designers will take part.

Covid seems to be flaring up again in Europe. Much like we are seeing here, it’s likely not a second wave as it never really left. I have a feeling these grandiose fashion plans may fall through by Fall.

Looks like Covid is hitting manufacturing in the UK just as hard as the US. This is a bloodbath. Worse than '08. I talked to a USA based blanket maker about sourcing blankets for FW20 and they told me they are shutting their doors on 9/1 unless they find a buyer. It sounded like they had some issues pre-Covid, aging owners who wanted to retire and an inability to sell their product both wholesale and direct in a smart way, but they said the nail in the coffin was the non-essential business shut down combined wtih workers not coming back to work because they are making more with the combo of state and federal unemployment. Yikes.

Levi's posted a brief story on "cottonized" hemp today, which they say is the result of a new process "specially designed for Levi’s... [that's] soft like cotton... [but] easier on the environment.":

Coincidentally, I mentioned before that the only hemp garment I have that seems like cotton is a pair of jeans from Levi's. They're about 8 yrs old though.

If you check out the actual products they mention, they are only 23% hemp and 77% cotton... it's a start, I guess.
