I thought Moda’s brand lineup and buys for menswear were really strong. Very good customer service also. Shame they are discontinuing.

I bought a fair amount from Moda since they started carrying men’s, but they sent me the wrong size twice and the wrong item three times. I think for some items they also shipped from the UK to the the US and then to the customer depending on where they stocked the item, which can’t be a cheap way to fulfill orders

Moda’s items looked better in person than on the site. Sometimes u have to search a competitor’s page to see how the item looks like in better light and on a model

I find that to be true with most internet retailers. Searching elsewhere for better product photos and also measurements.

Last season for them was quite bad. A lot of unsold stuff. They were too conservative perhaps because most of the stuff unsold were quite conservative and boring. Possibly they felt their buys were too risky and bought safer items which ended up not selling since the safer buys crowd most probably doesn’t know about moda enough to buy stuff from them

TJ Maxx is reportedly putting the majority of employees in furlough. So that's an avenue of dead stock / clearance that's closed for brands and retailers that may have leaned on them to be able to get rid of some inventory and get a bit of cash flow at the end of the season.

They are probably doing that to qualify for govt loans which can be forgiven if they recall employees in June, correct?

Overlooking the cliché tone of hand-wringing, most of the literal "industry darlings" I can think of (from Giorgio to Donatella, Miuccia to Rick, Alber to Phoebe) are way over 40, and an awful lot of them are women.

I agree, but when you look at the rest of the article, it seems foot traffic is a much bigger driver. Eyewear, footwear, jewelry, watches, and plus sizes are among the hardest hit in the apparel industry. I imagine things such as watches and jewelry are mostly bought by the relatively well-to-do. Gyms are also among the harder hit, as are beauty stores such as Sephora. Fine dining has taken a bigger hit than casual dining, I imagine because it's harder to do take-out.
