While having no returns sounds like an amazing thing for a brand or a shop... if you don't have people willing to "take a chance" or even check your things out... that could mean your low return rate is reflective of brand / product issues. If you aren't appealing, or reaching, to some new "maybe" buyers your return rates might look nice because of lower costs but are not actually a good thing. It's a bit of a goldilocks situation. Some returns. But not too many.

Unlimited returns might work in the current year assuming it was tied to some sort of "account" system i.e. only the original owner can return them for damages, with this information being stored digitally. would obviously only work for certain products aka one's built to literally last a lieftime.

Maybe blockchain could solve this issue.

I get the impression that J. Crew is trying to be more "hip" by connecting with people in the #menswear community. Possibly part of an effort by Brendon, or at least part of the change to make J. Crew more relevant. In the last couple of months, they've done collaborations with Wooden Sleepers, David Coggins, Dick Carrol, and Lawrence Schlossman.

The response on J. Crew Men's IG is going about as well as you'd expect. There's perhaps no saving the brand. Keep with normie outfits and styling, and it will devolve into commodity pricing and comparison shopping. Do anything even halfway interesting and you lose the core customer.

I just played a fun game of scrolling through J. Crew Men’s IG and guessing which posts go with which comments. It’s pretty easy since most comments are pretty solidly on point. I will admit, the photos of Coggins fishing in a suit were pretty funny.

Is there an IG aesthetic that you think would work for a J. Crew crowd?

I saw way more positive comments than negative (outside of the posts that were clearly pushing the limits). And there were many posts with thousands of likes. Take, as an easy example, a post of Coggins not fishing in a suit:

He’s sockless (smh), pants are rolled, jacket sleeves are rolled to show shirt cuff, wearing a sweatshirt over a button down shirt, sporting a hat most people would struggle to wear in real life… and he looks good, has what I believe to be an IG-friendly vibe, and has thousands of upvotes and a bunch of very positive comments.

Having read through a bunch of posts, I actually think the negative comments were just cherry picked. But I don’t know if JC is expected to generate a greater number of likes and positive engagement? As a layman, their IG seems to be doing well and meeting a positive reception. I don’t have enough background to know what customer engagement metrics they need to hit though.

I popped into a local J Crew this afternoon and I believe I saw the green jacket that he is wearing in that photo.

I did not try it on, but it caught my attention straight away as a very strong piece. I did not look at the Fall collection that carefully or for that long, but stuff generally looked very good.

The store was pretty busy and people were buying, judging from the checkout line.
