Disappointed with Grapevinehill

I know that many members speak of GVH with great reverence but I must say that I am disappointed with one of my two interactions. I won a pair of Mezlan brown lace ups. Admittedly, they aren't EG; they aren't even AE but I did expect them to last more than a financial quarter. It is now four months later and the sole of the right shoe is almost completely shredded. Keep in mind that I don't work on a construction site. I'm a VC so the shoes aren't exposed to severe conditions. Some of you will say that you get what you pay for. I think that is BS. Prior to joining this forum, I purchased Cole Haans, Florsheims and J&Ms. Althought their quality isn't ideal, they are all going strong. When I contacted GVH, they really weren't very sympathetic to my plight. I'm not sure what my expectations were but I did expect at least a token gesture. I plan to have them resoled because I do like the shoes but, at this point, I'm not sure I will work with them again. That's probably BS too. I probably will work with them again but at this moment, I am pissed. Just a vent.

But how is this GVH's fault? They didn't make the shoes. You told them what you wanted, and they sold it to you.
You wore the shoes for four months, and then expected the third-party online retailer to make some recompense or other "token" when you reported that the soles were going? That strikes me as pretty unreasonable.
I can understand your frustration, but it seems to me it would be better directed at Mezlan than at GVH.

You plight would be the same without regard to the seller. Surely the shredding didn't occur overnight. Perhaps it would be best to register a complaint a little earlier next time with any seller.

The good news is that you didn't pay full retail to GVH. When some of your VC projects finally pay off, you might elect to choose other makers and retailers.

Good luck!

I am not sure I understand. What made you buy Mezlans after joining this forum? Why would you expect GVH to have sympathy over worn out shoes?

Be careful with the resoling or you will be posting another "vent" thread very soon. There are several cobblers out there who always claim to have 10+years experience and always do a crappy job!

yeah, if you have a complaint, it probably should be directed to Mezlan, not GVH.

GVH is a jobber. I would not expect them to stand behind any of the products they sell, be they Mezlans or RLPLs. Think of full price at an official retailer as incorporating "insurance" should the shoes be defective or wear out prematurely. By buying from GVH, you are willingly forgoing the insurance in exchange for a lower price. That is a deal most of us are willing to make.

The only problem I have with GVH is the hideous shipping charges they level. $31 to Canada because they insist on UPS? Whatever.

Other than that, good selection of shoes.

I actually find Grapevinehill's customer service to be exceptional. I've had things that didn't fit, and they took it back albeit less shipping. There was another situation where they sent me the wrong size partly because I didn't understand Italian sizing conversions and they took it back and reimbursed me for shipping both ways.

On the issue of Mezlans, the previous posters are right in that it is a Mezlan issue not a GVH one. For example, I purchased a pair of Mezlans from GVH this summer and they are now in the dumpster because I only needed them for an internship. Meanwhile, the Bruno Magli, Taryn Rose, and Ralph Lauren shoes that I've bought in the past from GVH are excellent and still going strong.

Mezlans are not the type of shoe that you should be spending money on refurbishing anyway. The reason the soles on your other "lower level" shoes lasted so much longer is probably because they are cheap rubber soles.

This situation actually reminds me of the obese people who sued McDonald's for making them fat. Just bid the extra $50-100 for the better brands.

Hey, we live in a culture where people smoke for fifty years and then sue Philip Morris for giving them what they paid for, not once but daily.

Your expectations are ludicrous. You bought a poor-quality shoe from a source less reliable than a deep discount retail outlet, and now you are complaining that your poor-quality shoe is not very durable and that the customer service of ebay does not live up to that of a retail shop. What kind of VC deals have you put together...any?

That's $31.50 by FEDEX mister + the usual duty, GST, PST, brokerage fee... which amounted to $102 the last time I bought a $230 pair of Polo/C&J monks from GVH.
