Dirty Shoes or Natural Antiquing?

I have been wondering for quite some time...

It seems a lot well dressed people I meet seem to wear these type of shoes, rather than bright and shiny looking shoes. Are these shoes cooler or are they just wearing dirty old shoes?

Here`s an example of what I`m talking about:

Dirty; no polish, no shoe trees, just shame.

In my opinion, while those shoes are in desparate need of some good polishing, they aren't that bad and show lots of character. They don't really go together with their outfits though and would look much better if they were dressed more casually.

It's possible that they might have some sort of attachment to them though... I myself have a pair of beat-up antiqued brown wingtips that look as if they're older than me, but I wouldn't give them up for any other pair in the world. I still wear them regularly (casual only), and I've probably sunk enough money into repairs on them that I could've bought another new pair at retail.

How "well-dressed" can these guys be if they ignore their shoes?

In my mind they are not well dressed.

Is this a European or American problem? The guy on the right in the navy jacket, his shoes just look bad. Even forgoing a poor polishing, they don't look like decent quality shoes. The guy in the DB, his kind of have a bit of "character" to them. I would like to see both pairs up close. Overall their shoes could look much better, given their level of dress.

I agree, the shoes just look dirty.

Maybe the guy on the left can pass as natural antiquing (say the shoes are 10 or more years old) but they still look dirty.

I still don`t understand thought, since their clothes are so nice.

Those shoes would look a lot better if they would take a minute and turn the garden hose on them before going to work. The problem though is, obviously, that they don't have the time to mess with their shoes.

Oh, let's give them special dispensation, after all they are Italian.

Pirozzi will really be interested to hear that his suit looks like RTW!

I think it looks like these guys have been lazy and need to go buy some polish.
