I believe you're refering to a Tailcoat.

The peak lapels and double row of buttons can be confusing. Mine are RTW from Greenfield for BB Golden Fleece...I hate the satin lapels but can't justify a bespoke replacement.

I have for sometime thought if and when I get a DJ it would be a DB for the simple reason that I wouldn't have to bother with a cummerbund or a vest. I sorta like DB DJ's on their own aesthetic merits aside from that pragmatic reason.

Mine is double, in the old style. I would like a really nice SBPL though.

I agree on both counts. Though I do like the SB peak + vest and wing collar look. But not enough to get another DJ.

I also agree with J Libourel. But what I prefer, I don't have: double-breasted. Slowly, the jacket below inches toward the top of my project list.

Absolutely, completely, and totally frivolous in ivory for my lifestyle as it may be, this Lawrence Fellows illustration from Apparel Arts is my favorite dinner jacket. Such dinners are not formal affairs and I believe the jackets should not be too stiff in appearance.

The shawl lapel/collar treatment offers just enough of a casual, almost insouciant air. The 4 x 1 treatment and the full-bellied lapels just seem so correct and comfortable. My two black single-breasted dinner jackets with peak and (yes, horrors!) notch lapels cannot match the relaxed mood of the illustrated jacket.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
