Dinner jackets never happened here. Wonder if one could change this?

It helps to be among the more plutocratic classes. Where I live there is little or no place to wear one. Farther into the city center or Westwood they get worn for fancy occasions.

In the four years, I've owned my dinner jacket, Duponi silk w satin lapels(something like that), I had proper occasion to wear exactly two times. Unless you do charity fundraisers on a regular basis, it isn'tworth the effort of having one really. I've worn it out in a raffish, deconstructed way a few times as a man ho outfit for parties. That's probably the most milage one can expect these days for a dinner jacket. Got it for a song at a NM, made sense at the time.

Yes, I always hoped to be able to wear them to weddings at least, but when the groom doesn't even bother with a dinner jacket, it seems inappropriate to wear one.

I think the last time I wore a DJ in CA was 1998. Will probably wears one to the SF Opera every once in a while. The B&W Ball is another venue, I haven't been to that in 20 years and it's kinda cheesy.

Las Madrinas in LA is still white tie for escorts and fathers, black tie for everyone else.

I wore mine this fall but that was for a fundraiser. I also wear the jacket casually with jeans. I wear it just enough and the current MTM one annoys me just enough too that I've been toying with the idea of getting one made.

Opening night performing arts events are great times for one too.

Yup, all I can think of is fundraisers. Of course, my MIL's retirement community held their New Year's party and many of the gents broke out DJ's for the event but they're in their seventies and on up. For us striplings under sixty-five, it's hard to justify.

This reminds me of a show I just saw. The SO was watching some horrific reality show; I think it was "Kourtney and Kim Take New York" (the one with the Kardashian sisters). Anyway, one of the 'characters' (this show is obviously completely scripted), I think his name is Scott, was wearing a white dinner jacket casually during the day, with shawl collar and satin facings, paired with a light blue shirt, navy pants, and a blue paisley tie.
