So, I'm heading to a snazzy joint for dinner tonight (1789 for DCites) and I've made my mind up that I'm wearing a black Ted Baker that I never wear anymore. The dilemma ensues.

Purple, leaning towards lavender herringbone Brioni with white contrast collar and french cuffs, and a blue/lavender Hermes tie

Or

Black and white pinstripe RLPL shirt, white french cuffs, and an orange/brown/white Hermes tie..

Both ties were gifts, I have to wear one or the other.

I'm leaning towards the Brioni combo, as the tie is very striking, and with the pin I think would be too much.

Pictures may or may not be coming.. got a bit to do before dinner.

(Note: I tied my first half-windsor today.. took me about 20 minutes to get one that was decent, still don't have the dimpling down though.)

I'd g with the purple, but I have to say that I think the white cuffs and collar say "office."

+1. Nix the contrasting collar shirt and if you have to pick between those 2 ties, I'd go with #1.

I would go with the lavender. White collars and cuffs are formal, but 1789 is a formal place (I believe jackets are required), so you won't look out of place. Lavender softens the outfit so you don't look like you're going to a board meeting. Wear fun cufflinks if you have them.

Jackets are required - precisely what I thought, AC.. I also planned to go with the skull / bones links and the Hermes tie is .. well, whimsical seeing as it's a Hermes tie.

Which outfit did you choose? And more importantly, how was the food?

Restaurant week is the time I really wish I had an SO.

I went with the purple - I think it looked nice except the suit definitely no longer works for me.. the sides need to be taken in a bit. Funny what this forum does to people.

The food was freaking phenomenal.

My SO had the parsnip soup with pickled scallops which was to die for, sirloin which had an extremely rich flavor topped with swiss chard and something else.. and the warm apple crostada with caramel ice cream.

I had the bluefin tuna tartar, lamb with these little cheese ravioli deals and I can't remember what the sauce was, something tomatoey.. o_O and the chocolate dome cake with coffee ice cream.

We paired the main course with a Moltepuciano I believe, Marina Cvetic.. it was pretty good. (Did I mention I hate the markup on wine in restaurants.. good Lord) The service was excellent, and best of all.. the price.

So, I've been to 5-6 restaurants during Restaurant week in the past 2 years (only lived here for 3) and this was the first that had their ENTIRE menu, though our two entrees had the only 10 dollar surcharges, under RW pricing, meaning 3 courses was 30.07. We typically go to a new place during RW and order off the RW menu, i.e. the Caucus Room and La Tasca recently.. because the regular stuff looks so good. I was exceptionally pleased with the place and we will definitely make a trip back there. I did see a couple fashion faux pas as the "jacket required / no jeans" dress code doesn't mean a whole lot more than that.. but whatever, to each his own.

Lay out the outfit and send us some pix. Sounds very snazzy.
