Dining Etiquette Question: Regarding the Use of Bibs

I suggest that using a napkin as a bib is fine with eating a whopper/taco/etc in your car while driving. I think its a great idea!

This thread brought back a nice memory.

I was either a freshman or sophomore in university. My parents came to visit me for my birthday (leading me to believe it was my freshman year but I can't remember). I like seafood, so they took me to a little seafood restaurant (not fancy, but very good, most of the waitresses were in shorts and t shirts if that gives you an idea) where crab was a specialty. I wasn't dressed particularly nice or anything.

I ordered the crab. The waitress was very attractive and about my age. She was being somewhat flirty with me the whole time. Then somehow she picked up that it was my birthday from the conversation, but never said anything about it.

When the food came, she had a bib for me (none for my parents, only me). I politely declined. She said "come on birthday boy" and proceeded to tie it on me herself. My parents were laughing hysterically which only served to encourage her, so she kind of sang some of "happy birthday" while she was tying it on me.

My parents gave her quite a large tip.

In the parking lot my dad said to me "why the hell didn't you get her phone number? haven't you learned anything at this fancy school?"

<-- is one half Mainac and does not eat lobster while wearing a bib. My mother was horrified the first time I ordered lobster and donned the bib.
