Difficulty tailoring pants to be slimmer?

So I've given up on the fact that I am no longer a size 34 pants, as I generally have bigger legs/thighs (and butt). I admit that I could stand to lose about 15lbs so that maybe I can fit back into a size 34 as I used to. But I generally think I am healthy now and with a new baby that arrived, I just don't have the time anymore to hit the gym as often as I would like ontop of juggling a demanding job.

Now my question is, about a few weeks ago I was in need of some dress pants and I went to the local shop here in toronto (Korys for those folks familiar), and of course I ended up getting stuck with a certain individual who seemed like he was only interested in trying to fit me into the easiest pair of pants for which his tailor wouldn't need to require to do much work on. I tried his size 34, and of course they were a little tight, but in general the rise was good and the leg fitting was good, it was just the waist and backside (butt) that needed to be let out as the pockets were flaring. He instead convinced me to try a size 36. The size 36 waist fits comfortably, but they are too baggy and loose for my taste. I am only 5'9 so these pants make me shorter and stubbier. He assured me that his tailor would take them in on the knee and slim them down. A week after picking them up, I tried them on and I wasn't impressed.. but of course he convinced me that they are slim enough.

Now my question is, should I have bought the size 34 pants, and demanded he let out the waist and give room for my butt so the pockets don't flare? Or was he right in fitting me in a size 36. I admit the size 36 waist feels more comfortable, but they are way too baggy and loose for my taste. Even after having them dry cleaned/pressed, they lack the crisp and professional look that I've had with other pairs of pants I've had.

I guess my other question is. Is it worth to take these 2 pants I bought to a tailor to have him look at and slim. Specifically around the leg and crotch area as they are too loose?

Any thoughts? I know the easiest answer is to loose weight.. but at this point I can't and all I can do is continue to eat healthy and stay at this average weight/size.

Take it to a different tailor/alterationist and have them slimmed. This is a fairly simple procedure. They should take the material from the outseam down the leg.

+1 for using a different (better) tailor. A good tailor can slim pants well.

Thanks guys. The problem and annoying thing with Korys was that I actually paid $20 for each pair of pants, to have them "tailored".. instead the sales manager there was overly pushy and even interrupting the tailor he called out from the back to measure me. He kept telling the tailor to just hem the pants, when I could tell the tailor wanted to also alter the actual pant leg and slim them up. A size 36 fits me well on the waist, but the butt, crotch and leg is far too wide.

I've actually given up on this store too. But lack of choice up here is also frustrating. I will take these to a local tailor and see what he says.
