Different ways to find a job opportunity

Hi Guys,

Are there any other good ways to find a job other than careerbuilder, monster, or craigslist? I have a specific type of job I want, and i'm not finding anything worth pursuing on these websites. Is there a more proactive approach to finding a good job through other means?

Maybe contacting companies and asking if they have any current openings?
Posting your resume online (anyone have any luck with this?)
Alternate websites that offer job opportunities?
Newspapers aren't any good, right?

Contact companies directly if you're a good people person. Never ever had any success posting my resume online.
