Long time viewer, first time poster, hello to you all.

I have seen the subject of suit jackets worn with jeans on here and wanted to see if i could get your thoughts on a look i'd like to try.

Basically I really like the idea of mixing smart with casual.

I am planning on buying a dark grey slim fitting suit jacket and matching waistcoat to wear with some smart levis that i have just brought. I'm thinking of a shirt and tie also.

What do you guys reckon to this look, i just wanted to move on from jacket, jeans with shirt/tshirt.

Thanks

I think this was discussed at length on a recent thread (as most things are). I like the look and wear it occasionally, though I know a number of people around here don't like it. If you wear a tie at all, I think it should be a very casual one (like a knit tie).

I think the jacket and matching waistcoat with jeans is a bit too much.

I think its great if you really know what your doing. This is one of my favorite things to do (mix formal with one piece of casual to spin it in another direction)

I love that sorta look, just make sure your jeans are dark and what kind of shoes do you plan on wearing?

Depending on the attitude and general style, you can look like a member of either a boy band or an underground band. Second good, first oh so bad.

The waistcoat puts the look into a more formal category. I too am of the odd jacket and jeans camp. Looks good with the right shirt. If you have the sense of style and good design sense, you can pull the look off. Pay attention to the texture of your odd jacket. Since denim is rougher, you should be choosing odd jackets like tweed or other fabrics that have more texture to them. A Super 150's fabric is a bad match because it's too smooth.

Sometimes a casual polo shirt with a suit jacket looks good.
