Different Colour Vest with Suit

Hi, I have a Navy Blue Suit and Pants and I'm wearing a dark gray skinny tie to a wedding. I was wondering if I can add a Vest that matches the tie (Gray) to make it a 3 pc. suit. I know it doesnt match the suit but I heard I can still match the vest to the tie instead, is that true?

You could, but you don't have to. As long as the color fits with the general look, there is nothing wrong with an unmatched vest and I have done it many times. Check out Richard III starring Sir Ian McKellan for a symphony of unmatched vests when they are rocking linen suits at the seaside.
