Hey all,

Aside from one being manufactured by BB under the name "Peal," are there any other real differences? Or, do you just pay more for the name Peal?

the made in usa dress calfskin shoes are made by alden. opinions of the relative merits of alden vs. c&j vs. alfred sargent will vary. the peals have been most coveted on this forum because on sale they once represented an unusually good chance to get northhampton shoes at low prices. now that the GBP has been under 1.5 (and as low as 1.35), compared to what you can pay now to have them shipped directly from england/pediwear the deals from BB on those english shoes are not as good (but still good).

Are the dress calfskin all made by Alden? Or is it a variety of manufacturers? (I love my one pair of Aldens).

i think all the made-in-usa are aldens. for sure a lot of them are immediately recognizable as classic alden styles.

note that BB also sells "imported" shoes, from china, spain, italy, etc., which are of inferior quality (vs. alden or c&j or as). they may be for sale in the "dress calfskin" category. they are not all awful, and even the imported shoes might be a good value for someone, but they do not get love on this forum.

the deal with "peal" is that it is a fictional UK company (a brand that BB owns & puts on english shoes that they have made). so no aldens would be sold as "peal." aldens are american shoes. the styles and fits are characteristically different.

The Peals are either Crockett and Jones or Alfred Sargent.

The made in the USA calf (not label Peal) are by Alden.
