I'm not married, but my long term girlfriend's family has a lot of money. I had absolutely no idea until I visited her parents in the US a year or so ago for the first time. They paid for first class flights for her and I and picked us up at the airport in some huge chauffeur driven car, which took us to their home, which had about 20 bedrooms and a garage with some 15 cars in.

I can understand why she kept it from me, but the shock was crazy. I must have made such a bad impression the first few days I was there, walking around with my mouth open. It was even more of a shock considering she's met my Mum before, who lives in a small flat is South London and works as a midwife.

my gf has money, I am presuming. She has been married before, and in that time lived a life of Ferraris and a lot of $10K handbags. Right now she is slumming her lifestyle 'to get in touch' with living poor. Doesn't spend a dime on me, rather, she costs me at least the price of dinner and drinks. Luckily she doesn't ask for anything and is hard to gift. I don't really know if this relationship is saving me money, or costing me money, based on my prior experience with women, who all tend to be expensive, but I am thinking it's costing me less, at least.

I laugh every time you do this, without knowing why.

I know a guy who came from a humble midwest city, where he worked retail. He was very charming and handsome, and he met a girl who was from a very wealthy family, with trust fund, etc., houses in various vacation spots -- city, beach, mountains, etc. But, the girl was loud, abrasive, and just plain ugly, not to mention going wrinkly from too much sun her whole life. But her married her. This guy works now in an easy part-time finance job (commission-based I assume), drives a Bentley coupe, lives in a fantastic got-everything house in the best part of town, dresses in fine and perfectly fitting clothes, travels the world on the family jet, etc. etc. I wouldn't trade with him for a minute though - - I don't see how he can live with his wife!

I'm with you on this one. Sure all those things are nice, but I'm a little vain (aren't we all?), and I'd rather be with someone who is smart & good looking, instead of just rich. 2 positive attributes are better than 1, right?

Well, happiness has its price. Most wives are pretty unpleasant anyway once the first flush of sexual enthusiasm has worn off.

I met a man who admitted to me he married his wife because her parents were rich doctors. Long story short: both parents died and left her completely out of their will and gave everything to her sisters. Ain't karma a *****?

one of the guys who works for me is the son of a very senior arab political leader (the mayor of a major city). he married a girl who is the daughter of a very rich man, from a differnt arab country. the girl (and her father) thought that my friend would get an important job in the government. my friend thought that he would get a lot of money from her father. in the end, both parents cut him off so that he can prove himself. and she is a total ***** and drives him nuts.
