Though I'm quite sure the Neiman Marcus cup is not vintage?

Yeah, it's one of those cheapo freebies (a candle) that NM likes to hand out with certain purchases. What can I say, my wife is a "scent" fanatic. The ceramic item at the other end of the desk is an essential-oils diffuser.

Out antiquing in Pennsylvania the other weekend, I discovered someone selling Tiffany desk sets (or pieces) from the 1920s/art nouveau era. Here's an example of a cigarette box. They are simply beautiful.

^^^These pieces are nice. I'm a huge fan and collector of Tiffany art glass.

Dupre-Lafon certainly designed some nice stuff. Wow...20 grand for that set.

A really nice coaster is a practicality...I have a lovely set of vintage Gucci in silver & burled wood.

A lovely little bronze is essential for those little moments of reflection/deflection when sitting at a desk for long periods.

I also think mixing different vintage periods is key...a matchy-matchy desk is uninspiring. Unless of course you want no distractions at all, in which case a desk devoid of anything but the bare essentials is best.

This Joe Columbo desk lamp is fantastic....

Louis Vuitton also made some nifty desk things in the 1970s although there is definitely something of a camp appeal since everything was made with that monogram canvas. A fully-matching desk is only appropriate if one has custom commissioned everything like the Maharajah of Indore did at the Manik Bagh. This Columbo design could also work on a desk: [IMG]

The seller I ran into doesn't list prices on their website for all of their items (HollandArts, for anyone who cares).

    Ah, here we go

    Letter opener 425
    Deep pen tray 650
Large jewel box (bigger than that cigarette box) 2150
    Paper clip 500
    Pen wipe 350

    you get the idea.

It would look great...I just don't know how good of a task light it would make. It also has a fairly large footprint.

Does a busy desk full of interesting things (both functional and decorative) turn you on, or a simple, but elegant look suit you best?
