I'm still sticking with them looking like Albrecht Durer postcards.

Neat but postcardy.

Not so much of a design, since it's not useful as it's simply beautiful, it's Ai Weiwei's work in Tate Modern London:

What's all this about? From Tate's site:

"All the world is a stage". In this theater the dance of a puppet, destructured in time and space, shows us the mechanisms that pulls the strings.
Director and animator: Dario Imbrogno
Cinematography: Giancarlo Morieri
Music and sound design: Enrico Ascoli
Postproduction: Emilio Sapia

Now I'm thinking about a modern Patrick Bateman conversation about cards.

100% recycled bamboo.

Advertising images and invitation to the Vuitton pavilion at the Paris 1931 Colonial Exhibition, Paris.

For anyone interested in tiki stuff-- this predates Don The Beachcomber by 5 years!

The tiki look was actually North African as this exhibition was to promote the French colonies in N Africa and Vietnam for commerce. African carvings and textiles paired well with the Deco look of the 1930 and the art became very popular in France at that time. An older friend of mine collected tons of wonderful African carvings and art at the Paris flea markets in the late 60's and early 70's when original owners who had acquired these pieces in the 30's/40's had passed away and their families sold their household items. I love the look of this next to classic Corbusier furniture.
