Funny, Basinski was the first name that popped into my head, but I was thinking that 4-disc album would be my pick. Mine: William Basinski - The Disintegration Loops - long, calming but ultimately depressing. A perfect compliment to a life that slowly wastes away alone in the middle of the ocean. Joanna Newsom - The Milk-Eyed Mender - I put this one here because it's one of the albums I've listened to the most, and IMO one of the best albums period of the last 10 years. Led Zeppelin - IV - My favorite Led Zeppelin album - one of them had to make the cut Radiohead - Kid A - One of the most comprehensively stylistic albums ever made. Can't go without it. Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde - Similarly to Zeppelin, had to bring a Dylan album and so this one is my pick Television - Marquee Moon - Another of my most-played albums, absolutely cannot do without The Real Kids - LP - Saving this just in case I ever get rescued. When I see the helicopter or ship or distance, this is what's coming on. I physically cannot be in a bad mood when I hear the opening riff of "All Kindsa Girls," my most immediately uplifting album of the 10 The Beatles - Sgt Pepper - Similar to Kid A, such a nuanced, stylistically varied album would be great for the long term Animal Collective - Here Comes the Indian - For when I start going crazy or need the motivation to go pig-hunting. The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin - beauty, love, sadness, death. Absolutely necessary. Pretty straight-forward overall and probably uninteresting as a list, but it's what I'd take! If I were to bring a classical album it would be Rachmaninoff without a shadow of a doubt. Would probably be good for my sanity to bring something like that.. but I've already overlapped with one of your picks in William Basinski so I'll deviate for the sake of variety

Outside of Rachmaninoff I have virtually no interest in classical music.

Black Flag- My War
Bathory- Blood Fire Death
Miles Davis- In a Silent Way
Morbid Angel- Domination
Joy Division- Closer
Arthur Rubinstein- Chopin's Nocturnes
Ol Dirty Bastard: Return to the 36 Chambers
Acid Bath- Paegan Terrorism Tactics
Ulver- William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell
Katatonia- Tonight's Decision

I should add that I had to leave Black Sabbath off because trying to choose between their first four records is like trying to decide which one of your children will live or die. It is also worth noting that I would seriously regret having to leave behind Depeche Mode's Songs of Faith and Devotion, Marilyn Manson's Portrait of an American Family, and at least two Dead Can Dance albums.

Does it count if there are two discs in the "cd"? The Beatles White Album for instance.

Cream - Disereli Gears
David Bowie - Ziggie Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
Jimi Hendrix - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
The Doors - The Doors
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin 4
The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street - Only because I don't know of a single disc that has my favorite songs on it.
Elvis - I have no idea which CD to choose since they're mostly compositions
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
The Beatles - The White Album
The Kinks - Lola vs. Powerman and the Money-Go-Round, Pt. 1

Some of my favorite hip hop and has a nostalgic appeal as I am from VA, and used to see them play in high school. I could have gone with Lord' Willin or Hell hath No Fury but the mixtape is a little more varied.

Either way **** you. What would you bring some fuckin MF Doom?
